Membership Eligibility

Greater Metro Federal Credit Union is proud to serve employees of some of the most prestigious and diverse groups in the metropolitan area, including:

  • IBM Corporation
  • The Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Manhattan
  • The Interchurch Center, 475 Riverside Drive
  • Visiting Nurse Service
  • Fedcap Rehabilitation Services
  • The Population Council
  • General Theological Seminary

This list is not all-inclusive and represents employers of the majority of our membership. Contact us if you think you are eligible for membership, or if you are an employer interested in offering the benefit of credit union membership to your employees.

Family Membership

If you are a  credit union member, your immediate family may also join. (Immediate family includes the spouse, children, parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, and grandchildren.) Also, household members sharing living expenses with a member are eligible to join.

Membership is also open to spouses of deceased credit union members; employees of this credit union and any family member of an existing employee of Greater Metro Federal Credit Union; persons retired as pensioners or annuitants from the above employment; members of their immediate families or households; and organizations of such persons.

New Membership Requirements

*** If joining through Sponsor Group, copy of badge or work ID is required for Primary Applicant.
*** A clear copy of valid State ID (Driver’s License, Non-driver’s or Passport) for the Primary Applicant and Joint Applicant.
*** If the Primary Applicant is related to one of our Member we require a letter that explains the relationship with the applicant.
*** For Custodial Account, the custodian must submit a copy of the minor’s birth certificate or copy of minor’s social security card.

How to Join

You become a member, subject to the approval of the board of directors, by depositing a minimum of $5.00, either in cash or through a payroll deduction, in a Share Account. There is no fee to join, and there are no dues.

Once A Member, Always A Member

Once you become a member, you remain a member as long as you maintain a minimum share balance of $5.00, even if you are no longer employed by a member organization.

How to Apply

Download and fill out the Membership Application (PDF)*, print out and sign, then mail or drop it at the credit union office together with copy of acceptable forms of identity and eligibility. Please be sure to include initial deposit of $5 for Share Account (Do not mail cash). Customer Identification Program Policy (2nd page of the document) is just information for your records.

Add an Account

Managing your finances is easy and convenient with It’s Me 247. Once you input your username (or member number) and password, you can click on the type of account you are interested in for current product offerings. Then click on “Open a New  Savings/Checking Account” or Certificate account to open the account of your choice. Deposits can be made by transferring funds from any existing account.

Change of Address

Keeping the credit union informed of a change of address has never been easier. Simply log on to It’s Me 247, click on “Personal Preferences,” then choose “personal information” to view and change your address, telephone number or email address so that the credit union has current information on your account. You can also change the way you want to view your information, however, some preferences require a high-speed connection to optimize their capability.
